FOR THE LOVE OF SCRUBS
WHO WE ARE
For The Love Of Scrubs is a nationwide collaboration of sewers who have come together since March 2020 to support health workers on the front line.
The For The Love of Scrubs Original Group on Facebook has over 50,000 members and has inspired many sizeable sewing organisations as well as smaller local FTLOS sub groups across the entire UK, bringing the total active number of associated sewers to in excess of 70,000.
Since March the main focus has been creating the vital scrubs that have been needed on the frontline. Whilst we still produce scrubs we are also rallying to create the huge number of face coverings that our communities now needs.
You can either ask for help, or join the community as a sewer
FACE COVERINGS FOR EVERYONE
How can we help people return to work, go on public transport, go shopping and visit people in hospitals?
Wearing a face covering protects your neighbours and shows you care
Our journey so far
Scrubs are an important part of frontline workers' personal protective equipment (PPE) and they are currently being changed more frequently in order to stop the spread of Covid-19. As a result, when the pandemic hit (March, April, May) the country was facing a national shortage – leaving healthcare staff vulnerable.
For the Love of Scrubs was set up by Ashleigh Linsdell, an A&E nurse who initially posted on Facebook asking for material to make scrubs for her colleagues. Ashleigh was swamped with people wanting to get involved and the Facebook group grew to over 50,000 members.
Since then ‘Scrubs Hubs’ have popped up all over the country. These organisations are working with hospitals and other health facilities to ensure they receive the scrubs they need. It’s no longer just scrubs volunteers are making, they’re also working on scrub caps, scrub laundry bags, headbands and other accessories. Cloth face coverings are also now being made.
For the Love of Scrubs is now incorporated as a not-for-profit Company, limited by guarantee, Registered in England & Wales, No: 12572059. We are working to attain Registered Charity status.
The mission now is to ensure that scrubs, accessories and cloth face coverings can be made and delivered where they're needed most to support our front-line staff in their fight against Covid-19. This is expanding to provide face coverings to everyday members of the public to help them safely return to normal.
